A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) or digital signature is an electronically formatted signature used to validate the authenticity and integrity of a message, software, or digital document. It serves as the digital equivalent of a physical or paper certificate. Digital Signature Certificates are widely used by government departments and are legally required in specific applications.
A Digital Signature Certificate is used in the same way as a handwritten signature. It verifies and authenticates an individual’s identity using digital keys. A DSC attached to any document acts as a binding commitment by the holder, as per the Information Technology Act, 2000 in India.
A digital signature is used to ensure the authenticity and integrity of digital messages or documents. In simple terms, a digital signature works like a seal on an envelope — it verifies the sender's identity and ensures that the content hasn’t been tampered with.
